FLASHBACK: Visiting KL - not me… (Pt 1)

Posted on Thursday 3 August 2006

Howdy readers of my little blog… here’s a little flashback of my last week back home (17th July till 23rd July) before I come back to Miri. A couple of my University’s friends visited KL for an entire week and this is what we did… so read on if you would like to know some of the places you can visit as well… this is Benet’s version of a typical KL shopping trip for the entire week!

(17/7) Day One: 1Utama and beyond!
(18/7) Day Two: City of Entertainment
(19/7) Day Three: Gamblers Unite!
(20/7) Day Four: KL City Tour
(21/7) Day Five: Visiting the Pyramid
(22/7) Day Six: Shopping haven!
(23/7) Day Seven: Sick beyond comprehension!

(17/7) Day One: 1Utama and beyond!
Breakfast: Dim Sum @ Taman Megah.
Lunch: Shakey’s Pizza @ 1Utama
Tea: Sakae Sushi @ The Curve
Dinner: Chun Tan Mee @ Jln. Sg. Besi.

Since it’s the first day and spirits are high… I took my friends to one of the biggest shopping complex in the Klang Valley - 1Utama. 1Utama is like this really huge “U” where one part consists of an old wing and the other a new wing connected by an underground tunnel and an overhead bridge over a main road… hmmm… hope I didn’t confused you there. Anyway, it was a weekday thus there weren’t many people and window shopping was a breeze - no massive crowds, pleasant sales girls, easy parking and lots of empty chairs for the occasional stop-and-rest :)

After lots of walking, some occasional shopping and lunch at Shakey’s Pizza, we proceed on to IKEA, Ikano Power Center and The Curve.

By now… my feet was a bit tired already but we continued on… We had a nice brief walked in IKEA where I bought some clothes hangers… I really liked the ones they sell in IKEA as it is larger and doesn’t cause the little nudge on the sleeves of your shirt. After IKEA, we moved on to Ikano Power Center where we visited the Pet’s Store and Hotel, Ronald went to enquire about some musical instuments and we visited the Apple Center… :)

By the time we were done… it was already evening and it’s time to beat the traffic. We got back home… all took turns at my Osim iSqueez [Review by KennySia], and we set off to our next destination: SS2 Pasar Malam.

SS2 Pasar Malam is perhaps one of the most populated ones around PJ cause it covers the entire SS2 square… we did more walking (ouch), had lots of practice at our maneuvering skills against human traffic and bought more food along the way. Yummy! After SS2, I drove to Jalan Sungai Besi for the infamous Chun Tan Mee and retire back home.

*whew* one day down… 6 more to go!

(18/7) Day Two: City of Entertainment
Breakfast: Yong Tou Foo @ Paramount
Lunch: Food Court @ First World Plaza, Genting Highlands.
Dinner: Lake View Seafood Restaurant @ Genting Highlands.

Today is the day we visited Uncle Lim… that’s Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong btw… After a nice Yong Tau Foo breakfast, we set off to Genting Highlands where it took approximately an hour to drive from my place. The drive up to Genting was pretty pleasant besides the occasional squishing of the passengers in the back seat… don’t blame me; some of the roads are a bit winding. But I must say that it’s definitely much easier to drive now since Genting expanded an alternate road for the downhill traffic.

When we arrived… we decided to check into our hotel room first (we stayed a night in Genting) and then we proceed on to a nice lunch at the food court area in First World Hotel. The entire afternoon was spent exploring First World with my friends… we went to the Snow World where my ears and nose got so cold it hurts, we did a bit of walking around and we went for the 4D MotionMaster (which was a REALLY HUGE let down). It just can’t match the experience you get from a proper IMAX theater. The 3D were off focus and causes dizziness plus the current show - Alice in Stupidland is not entertaining at all!

Come evening, my sister-in-law treated us to a scrumptious dinner at the Lake View Seafood Restaurant in Genting. We had crabs, japanese snails, nice big prawns, a couple of other dishes and all of us ate till our hearts content. :) Thanks “yee-sou”!

Japanese Snails
One of our dinner dishes - Japanese Snails Kung Po style.

After that, it’s gambling time! Since I’m not much of a gambler myself, I went to the Starbucks at FirstWorld while my friends all visited the casino… Equipped with my iBook, I was sipping a cup of hot chocolate while chatting with my friends and was actually giving tutorials to another friend of mine who was preparing for his supplementary exams. After an hour or two… i retired back to the hotel room to rest…

Meanwhile my friends are still trying out their luck at the casino… ;)

to be continued…
