Health Problems Related to the Geek Lifestyle
When was the last time you exercised? Well, I’m not sure about you; but it’s been a while since I jogged, play sports or even take an evening walk or cycle. Yeah; that’s how little i exercise these days… mainly just sleep, a bit of games, TVs and movies on the computer, as well as meeting deadlines on assignments. Anyway, found a very interesting article regarding the lifestyles among IT professionals (the author termed it “Geek lifestyle”) and how much attention is given to our personal health. Really like some of the points discussed in the article and how especially true some of them are. Of course, I’m not really a geek (yet) but my lifestyle does seems like its going in that direction. Eek!
Here’s some of the stuffs that caught my attention:
Lying in bed and watching TV or using the laptop are the worst. These stimulate the brain to wake up even more. If this happens repeatedly, the habit will be formed.
This is extremely real in my case. Ask my housemates and they’ll tell you that I need to watch a movie or have something on in order to go to sleep. I think it’s too late for me…. it’s already a habit! Aiks…
The typical geek trains their brain to be heavily focused while multitasking day after day. Is it surprising that this same brain does not do well when forced to isolate down to one task?
This is also somewhat true… I can’t sit on the desk and work on one problem without having the need to get up and do something else even after 10 minutes! Short attention span. Hmm… but this isn’t that bad… I still can force myself to concentrate if I have to….
There’s also a few other points that was discussed by the author but I’ll let you read them on your own. Point your mouse pointer [here] and click.
Time to get those dumb-bells out (or in my case - I need to buy them) and start execising! hahahaha…
Cheers~!
