Getting news in Miri

Posted on Thursday 23 February 2006

Most people read the newspaper in the morning… over a cup of coffee, over breakfast or tea breaks.

Me? I only get to buy the newspaper that I usually read (The Star) at 4:00pm everyday. And that is if I travel 45 minutes to town to get it. Why 4pm? Well, that’s because it only gets delivered to Miri (flown in from KL) at 4pm and it costs 70 cents more too!!

Some of you might suggests that why not read the online version or just browse the website; unfortunately… if I browse the website; I don’t get all the news and no comics section as well ;) … and as for the Online e-paper version; no support for Macs and unfortunately can’t install the stewpid ActiveX plug-in required by TM-Net e-browse in order to work it.

Yeah, they DO have other local dailies like Borneo Post and NST but I’ve been an avid reader of The Star for many many years and it’s something that you’re just used to… like having that favourite cup of coffee every morning.

Why am I typing all this? Cause today I had to go to town to buy The Star and actually wait till 4:30pm to get it… Sometimes I wonder why they don’t send the papers on an earlier flight from KL? Sigh…

Well, please forgive me if you find this boring… but just wanted to rant about it… :)

Cheers~!

[...] They ran a trial version (with a different system) much earlier on and it was brilliant (fast loading time, better readability, and multi platform support - no ActiveX installation required)… but when it became a paid subscription, they contracted TMNet instead, why??? What can I do… since I paid RM20 for it (1 month subscription) I guess I’ll just use it for now… Don’t think they’ll offer me a refund and in Miri I can only get the real thing (the paper itself) at 4:30pm.
