DVD War among pirates

Read an interesting article in The Star today and just wanna share it with you all… :)

Piracy has been around in Malaysia for “god-knows-how-long”… from music CDs, movies to popular softwares; all one needed to do is to pay a visit to the night market or a few famous spots in the city (e.g. Plaza Low Yat) and behold a myriad of titles are readily available to you at a fraction of the original cost.

But Malaysian Government are trying to curb these piracy issues. Recently, you can hear it on the radio, TV and who can forget the “VCD peddler turning into a pirate skeleton” ad on the big screen to encourage people to buy original. More and more artiste are also coming out to rally support and organize campaigns to buy original.

But if this is not enough…. we have another situation now at hand. Price war among the pirates themselves. An article in the local daily The Star (Distributor hurt in DVD war) reported that pirates in Penang are even fighting among themselves to attract customers and prices of DVD are as low as RM3 a copy. Anyway, it is kinda disturbing news because this leads to fights and crimes (The Star - Gang of 30 bashes up three-man raiding team) as more and more pirates are fighting for business. You wouldn’t really want to be caught in one of these fights now do you?

So, do think twice before you buy that CD next time.
